Lebanon's hotel revenues halved over security conditions

Lebanon's hotel revenues in the 2013 summer season dropped by 54 percent as a result of security and political developments in the country. Several tourism institutions were shut down and 70 percent of seasonal workers was laid off, Pierre Ashkar, the head of the Hotel Owners Association in Lebanon, said in a statement Thursday. Tourism represents 22 percent of Lebanon's GDP.
