The number of tourists who visited Dubai last year registered a rise reaching more than 72 million, according to Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police during his annual visit to police departments. Maj.-Gen. Al Mazeina has reviewed work of the General Department of Tourism Security, which has recorded 122 offences against those who violated desert safari rules and 67 of those who violated rules for internal trip activities and arrested 7,001 people who disturbed people at beaches. The department has issued copies of tourist manuals to 278,900 tourists in Dubai, Al Mazeina said, confirming that it is important to provide better services to the tourists who visit Dubai. He also discussed with officials about developing the skills of the staff of the Administrative Affairs Department, from which 67 police personnel were given special trainings last year. Al Mazeina praised the role played by the Victim Care Section, which dealt with 75,578 cases until November 2012,  against 74,835 cases in 2011. He also reviewed the statistics of the Anti-Crimes Department and implementations of anti-crimes plans such as hotspot programmes and security islands programme which aim to reduce crimes and arrest criminals through intensifying police patrols. Maj.-Gen. Al Mazeina  confirmed that security is vital for stability and development and thus the Dubai Police are keen on assuring it by achieving all plans aimed at reducing crimes. During a visit to the General Department of Criminal Investigation, he reviewed the crime statistics, types of crimes, number of wanted people, violators and procedures of arrests. Maj.-Gen. Al Mazeina visited the Criminal Investigation Department and reviewed the details and number of cases and suspects, and methods of crimes. He also reviewed the cases recorded by the electronic department and was briefed about the investigation programmes and telephone scams. He called on analysing cyber crimes and suspects and to continue training and exchange programmes with international security authorities. He said that the increase in the number of tourists to Dubai indicated that the emirate has become one of the most important tourist destinations worldwide and also an important business hub and centre for international and regional conventions and various events.
