The world famous Sydney Harbor Bridge will light up with inspirational tweets from members of the public in one of the biggest New Year Eve spectaculars ever planned in Australia, organizers said on Wednesday.
The special public messages, which will reveal how Sydney has been an inspiration to people, will cover the bridge on New Year's Eve before the city's famous fireworks light up the night-time sky.
The tweets will appear live on the Sydney Harbor Bridge pylons throughout the night, and will be broadcast around Australia and the world in coverage of the first major city to ring in the New Year.
The event is organized by Australian group, Imagination, which has been contracted to host New Year celebrations since 2010, and company director Heath Campanaro said the tweets were just one part of the major event.
He said this year's 7.2 million Australian dollar (6 million U. S dollar) New Year Eve celebrations will feature three firework spectaculars -- one at 9 p.m., another at 10:40 p.m. and the major event at midnight.
More than seven tonnes of fireworks -- including 11,000 shells, 25,000 shooting comets, and more than 100,000 individual pyrotechnic affects -- will be launched from the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the Sydney Opera House, and barges on Sydney harbor.
As in previous years the crowning glory will be the top-secret Sydney Harbour Bridge effect. This will form the centerpiece of the fireworks displays, featuring 13 kilometers of LED rope light and reaching 12 stories high.
"Sydney New Year's Eve is without a doubt our most famous creative achievement. It gives our entire team such a thrill to be able to influence such an iconic event, and I'm confident that together with the City of Sydney we can continue to cement Sydney' s position as the number one New Year's Eve event in the world," Campanaro said.
