Doha - QNA

Qatar Airways today announced an increase in the number of scheduled flights to Bangkok from three to four a day, effective February 20 next year. The additional daily service, taking frequency up to 28 non-stop flights a week, marks a significant rise in capacity on one of the airline’s busiest routes from its Doha hub. The increase is in response to growing demand, particularly from key feeder markets across Europe, Middle East, Africa and The Americas. Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport is one of Asia’s premier hubs and from here passengers can connect to destinations in neighbouring countries and across Thailand. All flights on the Doha – Bangkok route are operated with Qatar Airways’ flagship long-haul Boeing 777 aircraft offering a Business and Economy Class configuration and fully interactive audio and video personal entertainment system with a choice of over 1,000 programme options. Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the additional flight was possible as more long-haul aircraft join the fleet. "Our strategy has always been to serve popular routes with multi-frequency flights and Bangkok is an example," he said. "Bangkok has proved to be an attractive route for us with increased passenger demand from key markets around the world. Now with the additional capacity being introduced early next year, we will be able to offer passengers more choice when deciding to plan their holidays or business trips. "From Bangkok, travellers can have easy flight access to cities across Thailand, as well as to neighbouring countries, making it an ideal choice as the first stop for a holiday in south east Asia." One of the world’s fastest growing airlines, Qatar Airways has seen rapid growth in just 15 years of operations, currently flying a modern fleet of 116 aircraft to 122 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and The Americas. Since the beginning of 2012, Qatar Airways has launched flights to 12 new destinations – Baku (Azerbaijan); Tbilisi (Georgia); Kigali (Rwanda); Zagreb (Croatia), Erbil (Iraq), Baghdad (Iraq), Perth (Australia), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania); Yangon (Myanmar), Maputo (Mozambique), Belgrade (Serbia); and Warsaw (Poland). Over the next few weeks and months, Qatar Airways will launch services to a diverse portfolio of new routes, including Gassim, Saudi Arabia (7 January 2013); Najaf, Iraq (January 23); Phnom Penh, Cambodia (February 20); Chengdu, China (March 19); Chicago, USA (April 10); and Salalah, Oman (May 22).
