Ryanair angers Italians with 'mafia jibe' at Bari

The Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair angered Italian passengers when a flight attendant described their destination of Bari in southern Italy as a "mafia city," the Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported Saturday. "Welcome aboard this Ryanair flight from  Paris-Beauvais to Bari, city of the mafia and Saint Nicolas", she said, according to the newspaper's local edition. It quoted a passenger but gave no details of the date. "I feel terribly offended by the ridiculous way you treat your passengers," a young woman passenger wrote to the airline and the city's mayor. "Bari is in Puglia, a region that supported Ryanair with public money so it could open an airport platform with us some years ago," she said.
