As a pilot project on creating awareness among the public on safety and security, the Civil Defence Division of the Ministry of Interior has launched an initiative code named as “Safe House” in the Old Airport area. The main feature of this project is to form local council in each area and entrust it with the task of explaining and creating awareness among the public, Qataris and expatriates – individuals and families – in the area on the ways and means of safeguarding oneself and one’s personal possessions and properties from all types of accidents. The Civil Defence officials will present orientation programmes to the public on the procedures to be followed in case of an accident; and on maintaining periodic contact with the Civil Defence Division. “We will also press into service a “media van” which will visit each district and hand out leaflets and show documentaries on safety and security aspects. Our main task is to spread the message of “Safety First” in keeping with what our Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani has said often: ‘Safety is a Collective Responsibility’,” said Major Husain Aman al-Ali of the Civil Defence Division.
