General Security detained this week a total of eight Syrian nationals with fake passports at Beirut’s airport, it said in a statement Thursday. "The general directorate of General Security detained at Rafik Hariri International Airport on Sept. 19 six Syrian nationals attempting to travel to European countries with forged Swedish passports and fake names,” a statement by General Security said. Investigation in the case of the six Syrian revealed that they paid a total of $63,000 for the documents. General Security said a further two Syrians attempting to leave the country on forged passports were detained Thursday. The prosecutor's office in Mount Lebanon referred the case of the eight individuals to the appropriate judicial authorities. General Security is pursing the cell which forged the travel documents and carried out fraud against Arab and foreign citizens in Lebanon, the statement said.(daily star)
