Minister of Tourism Khaled Ramy
Cairo - MENA

The Tourism Ministry will be launching an integrated campaign to promote travel to Egypt within the coming few months, Tourism Minister Khaled Ramy said on Tuesday.

It is part of a strategy to attract 20 million tourists, Ramy said at a press conference in London, his first stop as part of a European tour taking him also to Germany and Russia.

It is important to launch this campaign now amid signs of political stability and security in Egypt, Ramy said.

He also pressed for action to correct wrong concepts about the Egyptian tourist destinations.

The campaign will target 27 tourism markets, Ramy said, adding that 17 companies have already offered to implement it.

The minister touched upon a tangible increase in the tourism movement from Britain, noting that it upped by 20 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

He said his Ministry is keen on promoting classic tourism. It is also acting so that Luxor and Aswan restore their position on the tourism map, Ramy said, believing that achieving this would in itself be a great success.

He talked about security measures taken by the Egyptian government to protect tourist attractions.

The government is also working to establish a New Alamein City in a bid to develop the Northern Coast area.
