The US Embassy has announced that it will be closed to the public on Sunday, June 30, and Monday, July 1, in anticipation of demonstrations that may turn violent.
In a new security message to US nationals in Egypt, the Embassy said that it would follow up on the development of the security situation there closely, warning them to keep away from areas of gatherings and protests.
The Embassy explained that even demonstrations or events that are intended to be peaceful, they can turn into confrontational and possibly escalate into violence.
The warning was issued 48 hours ahead of the large scale protests planned by the “Rebel Campaign” (Tamarrud) to demand President Mohammed Morsi to step down.
