Suez during Egypt’s successful 2011 revolution Suez – Sayed Mohamed Al-Qaeda has threatened to target demonstrators attempting to overthrow Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi or protest against the Muslim Brotherhood during January 25 celebrations, in a statement distributed in the Egyptian city of Suez on Tuesday.
The militant group described President Morsi as “God’s successor.”
The al-Qaeda statement warned against civilian involvement in January 25 celebrations, commemorating the second anniversary of the successful uprising against former President Hosni Mubarak, which it claimed aimed to turn Egypt into a secular state.
Militants would be on hand to “implement Islamic law” throughout January 25, the statement claimed.
Any aggression against “God’s successor” would not be tolerated, al-Qaeda announced, attacking what it called “secular-crusader-Zionist aggression” towards the Morsi regime. Egyptians who came under fire included Dr Mohamed el-Baradei, the founder of the el-Dostoor Party [whom al-Qaeda described as a “servant of the Americans”] and Hamdeen Sabahy.
