Belkhadem receives a vote of 'no confidence' from Algeria’s FLN
Algiers - Hocine Bousalah

Belkhadem receives a vote of 'no confidence' from Algeria’s FLN Former Secretary General of Algeria's National Liberation Front (FLN) has hit out at claims by opposition parties that he should be barred from running for the position in the 2015 elections. Abdelaziz Belkhadem , who was expelled from the Central Committee, described the claims made by opponents in the reform movement, as “having nothing to do with politics” and insisted they are “aimed at lessening the credibility of the Democratic Action.”
Last month, members of the Central Committee held a vote of no confidence for the then Secretary General, Belkhadem, with 156 members out of 160 voting against him. Since then there has been conflicting news about his fate, with several reports stating that he is still a member of the Central Committee.
Meanwhile, Belkhadem has insisted that reports about his plans to run for Secretary General again are “premature”, adding that he would first need to consider the interests of his party.
Other sources have revealed that the country’s senior politicians desperately want Belkhadem ousted as the head of the FLN, to limit his input during the amendment of Algeria’s constitution next year.
El-Hadi Khalidi, a senior member of the FLN and also in charge of reforming the party, confirmed that Belkhadem will be held accountable by the disciplinary committee, after a memorandum was filed against him and signed by more than 200 members.
“If proved innocent he can run in the next conference which will be held by 2015,” said Khalidi.
Khalidi also said that it is possible Belkhadem could run as a presidential candidate during the 2015 elections.
