Algerian political parties that decided to run for the coming parliamentary elections prepared their electoral lists not only to gain the parliamentary seats but also to prepare for the coming presidential elections in 2019.
Director General of Algeria’s opposition Labors Party Louisa Hanon decided to rung for the parliament for the fourth term with a number of her colleagues. Hanon is considered the first woman in the Maghreb to lead a political party and to compete for the presidency, as she ran for the presidential elections in 2009 and 2014.
Hanon is considered one of the major foes to the Islamists and adopted a large number of positions against the American policies in the Middle East, including the American invasion to Iraq in 2003. She was keen to participate in a number of festivals supporting the Palestinians and Lebanese people during the Israeli attacks targeting them.
However, Society of Peace Movement (MPS) and Front of Change nominated Abdel Mageed Monasra to top their unified electoral list. The Algerian politician is one of Muslim Brotherhood’s leader in the country. He is considered one of the students of Sheikh Mahfouz Nehnah, the Godfather of Algeria’s Muslim Brotherhood.
Monasra took a number of leading positions in the country, as he served before as a minister in the Algerian government and took a number of parliamentary terms.
In the same context, Algeria’s Tagammou Party for Culture and Democracy decided to nominate its leader Mohsen Belabbas who took the party’s leadership in 2012. He is known of his increasing criticism to the ruling authority in the country. He is strongly accepted in the country’s political arena, while critics underline his lack of political experience.
