Algeria's recent election has been deemed fraudulent
Algeria's Ennahda movement is demanding that local elections held last year be re-run following the publication of a report which found that the elections were "plagued by fraud"
.The report, conducted by the National Commission for Monitoring Local Elections, found that polls which took place on November 29 2012 were "tainted with mass violations" bringing into question the credibility of the results.
The Commission indicated that financial corruption was behind some of the election results, particularly relating to the ruling National Liberation Front [FLN] which topped the poll. More than 52 violations were recorded, implicating the FLN and the National Rally for Democracy [RND].
Mohammed Siddiqui, chief commissioner of the report, blamed some of the most serious violations on voters who registered themselves more than once.
Certain army personnel found to have voted away from their place of residence while a number of polling stations declared more votes than names on their registers.
The report concluded that the elections were "not free and fair" and votes had been "bought" while the administration was found to have been biased towards certain political parties.
