An armed group affiliated to al-Qaeda has attacked the headquarters of Algeria's National Gendarmerie in the Bouira region southeast of Algiers, on Monday
.
Algerian troops clashed with the group which resulted in the death of one of the armed men.
Eyewitnesses revealed to Arab Today that the armed group fired mortar shells at the headquarters at around 10:30 pm on Monday. A security source said the armed group attempted to escape after Algerian troops attacked them with machine guns. A number of the armed group members were injured following the clash and taken to a hospital nearby.
The incident led to a state of panic among residents in the area.
