Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane
Rabat - Rachid Bougha
Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane has said he prefers attending the Al-Quds International Conference scheduled to be held in Qatar, than meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Benkirane will
accompany 350 international delegates to head to Doha for the conference on the Jerusalem issue. The conference will be held in accordance with the decision of the Arab League in Sirte in March 2010.
It is expected that Benkirane is to deliver a speech on behalf of Morocco's king Mohammed VI and hold talks with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa to discuss issues relevant to Qatari investments in Morocco, the Sahara, constructing the Maghreb and Al-Jazeera, according to media sources.
The sources added that Benkirane will meet Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and Nabil Al-Arabi, the Arab League Secretary-General. He is also scheduled to meet Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Meanwhile, Benkirane stated earlier: "The Palestinian issue is of priority...Jerusalem comes before meeting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton".
Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Eddin Al-Osmani is to meet with Hillary Clinton in Morocco on Sunday instead.
