Islamist leader, Zawahiri, has called on people to rise against Shiite rule
A number of leaders from the Egyptian jihadist movements have called on people to fight against countries and parties who support the Syrian regime government of President Bashar al-Assad.
In the statement which was issued by a number of leaders including Mohammed al-Zawahiri leader of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, the Syrian regime was criticised for dividing Muslims.
The jihadist leaders said that Hezbollah, Iran, and Shiite Muslims have engaged in the Syrian war to “divide the region” and “target Sunni Muslims.” The statement called on “Sunnis living under Shiite rule, to fight against Syria.”
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah confirmed on Saturday that members of the party have been fighting in Syria beside regime forces. During a televised speech broadcast on Saturday Nasrallah pledged to achieve victory for President Assad and the Syrian regime, stating that if Assad looses power the US and Israeli backed Syrian opposition will become a “major threat to Lebanon and all Lebanese Muslims and Christians."
Nasrallah defended President Assad saying that he has agreed to conduct fundamental reforms in the government, but the opposition refuses to negotiate.
