Fatah and Hamas to form a Palestinian electoral committee
Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum confirmed that the Palestinian factions’ meeting in Cairo ended with agreement on six points, stressing the need of achieving these in order to end Palestinian division

Barhoum revealed the six items in a statement,” Arabstoday’ got a copy, which include:
The formation by the Palestinian electoral committee which will prepare for elections. The committee will be headed by Dr. Hanna Nasser and will include nine members.
The second item is about forming a new government before the end of the coming January.
The third item is about releasing the political prisoners.
The forth item is about forming a factional committee to establish mechanisms for dealing with the public freedoms.
The fifth covers the reformation of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and it was decided it would be discussed on December 22.
The sixth item was about the reactivation of reconciliation committee, which was formed in 2009.
Barhoum added that the meeting discussed all issues seriously, pointing out that the electoral committee’s members will be chosen by representative of Palestinian factions.
He also said that the file of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) had been postponed to December 22 meeting; moreover it was agreed to postpone the formation of the new government until January 26, as Fatah requested, assuring the agreement on reactivation of the reconciliation committee to deal with the political prisoners and passports files.
For his part, An Islamic Jihad leader, Nafez Azzam confirmed that the formation of the new government had been postponed till after January 26.
Azzam said in a radio statement “Fatah and Hamas agreed in the Palestinian factions meeting on postponing the formation of the government until January 26.”
He added that this meeting had continued for five hours and discussed a clear schedule for every file, referring to holding another meeting on Wednesday evening which will discuss the main issues such as the political prisoners.
He also pointed out to another meeting, which will be held on Thursday and will include the Palestinian factions and the Palestinian president and Fatah chief Mahmud Abbas, stressing the needs to end the political prisoners file before carrying out the elections.
Azzam admitted that Fatah and Hamas are the main sides in this reconciliation, but he stressed the importance for other Palestinian factions to participate.
He also hoped that this meeting could put mechanisms for ending Palestinian division.
