Saif al-Islam Gaddafi ‘Arabstoday’ learned from medical sources that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi had surgery on his fingers, and that his hand at present is much better, after it was infected with gangrene. The source, which requested anonymity, said that Saif al-Islam is currently in good health, and receiving good health care, noting that he has been moved to a safe place. On a different note, judges of the International Criminal Court asked the Libyan government to urgently provide them with information on whether they will transfer Saif al-Islam, son of late Maamar Gaddafi, to the International Criminal Court, and to set a date for the hand over. The Court – located in La haye – said that they want the Libyan authorities to provide them, as soon as possible, with information on the number of issues, including whether “they intend to turn in Saif al-Islam Gaddafi to court.”It is noted that Saif al-Islam is detained in Zintan, in western Libya, at a secret location that has not been disclosed since his arrest on November 19th. Saif al-Islam’s fate represents a challenge to the new authorities in Libya, which tries to find a balance between the call for revenge from Gaddafi’s son, who was considered his political heir, and Civil Society’s calls to provide him with a fair trial. The ICC issued on June 27th an international arrest warrant against Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, on charges of crimes against humanity during the suppression of the popular uprising, which turned into a civil war (February 15 – October 23) .
