Gulf Cooperation Council called the different components of Yemeni people to refuse the calls aiming to divide the country during the current critical period, stressing the need for rallying behind the legitimate government to restore security and stability in all over the country. The council renewed its position supporting the unity of the country and its sovereignty.
The Council stressed its support for the efforts exerted by the United Nations to reach a peaceful solution for the Yemeni crisis during the current critical period witnessed in the country according to the Gulf initiative and results of national dialogue in addition to UN Security Council Resolution (2216).
In the same context, The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, met on Tuesday with U.N. Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
The developments in Yemen were discussed, as well as ways to promote efforts of the U.N. and international community in boosting the political process in line with the Gulf initiative, outputs of the comprehensive national dialogue conference and U.N. Security Council Resolution 2216.
Al-Zayani also met on Tuesday with Jordan’s Ambassador to Riyadh Jamal Al-Shamalia, on the occasion of the end of his tenure in Saudi Arabia. The GCC secretary general expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the diplomatic efforts deployed by the Jordanian ambassador in Riyadh, and lauded the strong historic ties between Jordan and the GCC.
Another meeting was held between Al-Zayani and Ambassador of Afghanistan to Saudi Arabia, in the presence of the Afghan President special representative Sayed Jalal Karim. Discussions focused on mutual cooperation and the means to promote ties between the GCC and Afghanistan.
On the other hand, President Abdurbo Mansour Hadi received today the UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed in the presence of the Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Obaid Bin Dagher.
During the meeting, the president welcomed the UN envoy, reviewing the steps and concessions made by the government in the various peace tracks and stations in order to save Yemeni blood and put an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the unjust war of the coupist forces of Houthi, Saleh and those who support them.
The President of the Republic referred to the positive interaction that the Government has always provided in line with the three references represented in the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue and the relevant UN resolutions,ewhich is especially Resolution 2216.
His Excellency pointed out the intransigence of the coupists and their tampering with state resources until the bankruptcy of the Central Bank before being transferred to the temporary capital of Aden, pointing out that the coupist militia is still taking the revenue of taxes, customs, telecommunications companies, pension funds and others for the benefit of their war effort and the citizen in the provinces under their control are suffering humiliation and begging their entitlements. This requires the pressure of the international community to stop this absurdity and to provide full resources to the state, which do its responsibility towards all people of the homeland.
For his part, the UN envoy to Yemen stressed his constant concern for peace in Yemen and the achievement of the security and stability that the Yemeni people deserve, hoping that the war will end and Yemen will return to its unity and effectiveness in the context of its surroundings.
He reiterated the importance of paying attention to humanitarian and relief sides as response to the call of the international organizations, the international community and for the interests of peace in general.
