Hamas discreet on Qatar's Prince visit to Political Head
The Jordanian government and Hamas did not comment on the visit of the Crown Prince of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al Thani, accompanied by Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas
Khaled Meshaal, to Amman on Sunday.
The meeting was marked by the absence of any representative of the Jordanian government. Moreover, Jordanian authorities denied the existence of a secret agenda for Meshaal’s visit, the first after more than a decade.
This visit is considered historical, since it means a new beginning in the relations between Jordan and Hamas, after a ten-year-long period of tension.
The Jordanian Minister of Information and government spokesman Rakan Al-Majali, denied the "rumours" around secret negotiations taking place between Jordan and Hamas during the visit.
Majali stressed that this relationship “will not be at the expenses of the Palestinian National Authority, which Jordan considers the highest representation of the Palestinian people.” The Minister also said that his country “deals with all Palestinian political parties, including Hamas.”
On the reopening of the Hamas offices in Jordan, Al-Majali stressed that "this subject is not on the table and it wasn’t requested.”
The visit of the President of the Hamas Political Bureau to Jordan comes amid the conflicting reports on the movement's request to move their political bureau from Damascus to Amman, an action that Hamas has firmly denied
