Iraqi governmental troops resumed their advance in Mousl’s right bank, as they managed to liberate Drnajouk village, and stormed Bab Al Tob district. Meanwhile, Popular Mobilization Forces managed to extremist governor of Badosh Province Ali Salem Al Jabori.
Spokesperson of Joint Special Operation Command Yahia Rasool revealed that the Iraqi troops managed to control over 65 percent of the city’s right bank, saying that they resume advance in a number of districts to liberate them, as the extremist militias withdrew from the city.
According to sources, Iraqi security forces on Sunday stormed three more districts in the right bank of Mosul, Nineveh province, according to well-informed sources. The source said Iraqi joint troops of police and army stormed Bab el-Tob, al-Naft and Al-Resala neighborhoods and raided a number of houses.
The source said the Iraqi forces rampaged several buildings and arrested a number of civilians over suspicion of belonging to the terrorist group of ISIS. Storming operation of the districts is still underway.
Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Forces on Sunday stormed Mosul al-Jadidah and al-Aghawat districts in western Mosul, Commander of "We Are Coming Nineveh" Operations Lieutenant General Abd Al Amir Rashid Yar Allah announced.
On February 19, the Iraqi Army launched the second phase of a massive military operation to retake the embattled city of Mosul which has been under the control of ISIS terrorist group since June 2014.
The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said Sunday Federal Police and Rapid Response teams invaded Bab al-Toub, an area adjacent to the Old City.
Federal Police chief, Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat, said his snipers were deployed above the district’s highest buildings. The teams are also conducting searches and evacuating civilians from the neighboring Okaidat and Dawasah districts, Jawdat said.
said the Iraqi forces invaded the Old City on Saturday, but a senior military officer was quoted saying ground invasions were halting temporarily due to bad weather conditions.
Military leaders from the Iraqi side and the allied U.S.-led coalition had foreseen a tougher battle in western Mosul due to the region’s dense residential areas and the high number of population estimated by 750.000.
A military source informed that security forces repulsed an attack on Tal Afar Airport, and killed 18 members of the Islamic State group, Alsumaria News reported on Sunday.
The source said, “Forces from the army’s 92nd managed to repulse a violent attack launched by the Islamic State group on Tal Afar Airport, west of Mosul.”
“Security forces were able to kill 18 members of the Islamic State, including four suicide bombers driving booby-trapped vehicles, who tried to attack military forces stationed in the vicinity of the airport,” the source added.
“Three members of the Islamic State were also arrested, while security forces cordoned off the airport and nearby villages to prevent any further attack by the terrorist group,” the source further explained.
