Palestinians inspect the rubble of a destroyed building following an Israeli air strike
Gaza – Mohamed Habib
One Palestinian citizen was killed and another was severely injured after an Israeli air raid struck Khan Yunis in South Gaza in the early hours of Sunday. Nine people have been killed and 14 injured since Israel first struck Gaza last Monday.
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has strongly condemned the offensive and has declared that his country would support Gaza and the Palestinians. He added that Egypt will not remain silent on this matter.
Before the raid, a number of Israeli bulldozers entered Khan Yunis in south Gaza. Jeeps and war vehicles were seen near the eastern Gazan border. Intensive Shootings were also heard in the area.
In a related context, paramedics found a body buried under gravel after a tunnel collapsed last Wednesday. The deceased is believed to be Akram Al-Gharabawy, 22. The medical team searched his body for three days. This incident killed another two Palestinians: Zoher Qassim, 25, and Walid Nasser Marouf.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh announced that Morsi and himself had a reconstruction plan in Gaza following the recent Israeli attacks. Haniyeh said that Egypt would soon regain its Arab leadership in the region and that the Palestinians will triumph through Egypt.
Gaza received humanitarian help and an Indonesian delegation for Eid Al-Adha. The Hamas leader welcomed the help and support provided to Gazans, and gave a vehement speech about Israel. He said “They have no future on our lands. We will never recognise the state of Israel.”
Israel intensified their attacks against Gaza after the Qatari Prince’s visit to Gaza, which was the second visit by a Qatari prince since 1999.
