Head of Israeli public diplomacy, Daniel Seaman
An Israeli government official responsible for promoting a positive image of Israel has been warned after making a series of undiplomatic comments on social networking sites
.
Daniel Seaman wrote a series of racist and abusive comments about Japan, the Church of Scotland and the EU, after taking up the post of head of Israeli public diplomacy a few months ago.
He also lashed out at Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat, after his demand for an end to new settlement expansion, by writing: "Is there a diplomatic way of saying 'Go F*** yourself'?"
In a statement, the National Information Directorate said: "Danny Seaman's statements on Facebook are unacceptable and do not express the view of the Israeli government. The directorate instructed Seaman to immediately refrain from making such statements."
The Jerusalem Post said that Seaman's superiors issued several warnings over his Facebook postings before the order.
At the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Seaman posted: "Does the commencement of the fast of the Ramadan mean that Muslims will stop eating each other during the daytime?"
Commenting on a Church of Scotland report that argued that Jews do not have a divine right to the land, he wrote: "Why do they think we give a flying F*** what you have to say?"
On commemorations for the victims of Japan's 1945 atomic bombs, he said: "I am sick of the Japanese, 'Human Rights' and 'Peace' groups the world over holding their annual self-righteous commemorations for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki victims.
"Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the consequence of Japanese aggression. You reap what you sow..."
Israeli newspaper Haaretz said Japanese officials contacted Israeli foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, to ask whether Seaman's comments were a reflection of Israeli government policy.
