AQIM has claimed responsibility for the Mauritania gendarme kidnap

Al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) published a video, Friday, claiming responsibility for kidnapping Mauritanian gendarme Ely Ould Mokhtar who appears on the video, appealing to
Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and calling on him to take action for his release.
The 1 minute 20 seconds video which was broadcast via Nouakchott news agency shows the kidnapped gendarme in his uniform, his hands cuffed, appearing before a black background with “Al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb” writing on it in Arabic, calling on the President to intervene to save his life, as well as calling on his family to not keep quiet and move forward his case.
AQIM issued a statement today announcing two terms for the release of Ould Mokhtar; which are the release of two of their prisoners in Mauritania, whom they have not identified, and the vow that the gendarme does not return to the military service.
