The first interview since his arrest Imad Trabelsi nephew of Leila Trabelsi Ben Ali's notorious wife sent a message to Tunisians saying “one day the truth will come out, and I’m not an angel,” in an interview with the French magazine “Le Parisien."
This is his first interview since his arrest in January 14, 2011, the day the Tunisian president was  ousted. Imed Trablelsi is considered the most hated man in Tunisia, as a symbol of a corrupt regime; he admits that “he is not an angel” and even admits some abuses of his uncle regime.
The Tunisian court found Imed Trablelsi guilty in several cases, most notably, abuse of power and drug use.
Regarding the reasons behind the Tunisian revolution against his uncle, Trablelsi said that he followed the revolution events like other Tunisian people, adding that the uprising was a big surprise for him, as the situation, in his opinion, didn’t seem explosive to warrant a revolution.
Meanwhile, Trablelsi believes that the Tunisian revolution after a year is not fully completed yet, and has not achieved its goals, saying that the democratic political system must be based on fair justice and freedom of media, and these two conditions have not been achieved.
Regarding his situation in terms of ‘justice’, Trablelsi said that he has not benefited from the general pardon granted in March 2011, he was sentenced to 33 years in prison, including for issuing NSF checks, “The problem is that these checks were cashed after the freezing of all of my accounts,” he explained.
He added “I also was sentenced to four years in prison for using cannabis (drug). I made so-called positive tests 14 days after my arrest, when I had not touched it for 10 years.”
“I was also sentenced to two years in prison for trying to flee Tunisia, when I was not banned from leaving the territory. I went on a hunger strike to draw attention from humanitarian organizations on me, but I suspended it after 28 days because I have to survive for my daughter,” he continued.
About taking advantage of his position during Ben Ali’s regime, Trablelsi said “I’m not an angel, but I used to work 14 hours a day,” he said after he admitted to some abuse during Ben Ali’s regime.
