Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh (L) greets Malaysian Prime Minister Abdul Razak Malaysian Prime Minister Mohammad Najib Abdul Razak described his visit to the Gaza Strip as historic, stressing that his government believes in a national united Palestinian government .
Mohammad Najib Abdul Razak and his wife arrived in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning via the Rafah crossing.
They were greeted by Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and a number of ministers and officials from the deposed government.
Abdul Razak visited a Gaza university and government offices, as well as the family of top Hamas military chief, Ahmed Al Jabari, whose assassination by Israel in November started an eight-day war in which more than 160 Palestinians and six Israelis died.
Abdul Razak told a joint news conference in Gaza City with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh that he came to express his solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“We may be far from you in distance, but we are one nation and believe in the struggle of the Palestinian people,” Abdul Razak said.
"This is a humanitarian visit to express our deep concerns for what is happening to the Palestinian people in Gaza and to express our opposition to the aggression on Gaza," he added.
"We continue to support you," Malaysia's Prime Minister declared.
Abdul Razak also called on leaders of free nations of the world to visit the Gaza Strip and see the consequences of Israeli aggression.
"It was possible to issue statements from Malaysia or send delegations, but I insisted to come with my wife to make this visit symbolic of our support for the Gaza Strip. I hope more Muslim leaders around the world to do the same," he continued.
"It is not just your struggle, it is the struggle of the whole nation, and I salute you for your courage " Abdul Razak said.
He pointed out that during the visit, the delegation team were able to see the destruction caused by Israeli war machines in schools, mosques, homes and facilities.
"It is totally unacceptable and contrary to the principles upon which the United Nations was established," the Malaysian Prime Minister stated.
He congratulated the Palestinians for unity talks between Fatah and Hamas, expressing his hope that a unity government will be formed soon.
Ismail Haniyeh said the visit was aimed at defying the political and economic blockade imposed by Israel since the Islamist movement seized control in 2007.
He added the trip was a response to a visit Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made to the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
He thanked the Malaysian state and government for its support, stressing that his government looks forward to a leading role in contributing to the Malaysian-Palestinian cultural renaissance requirements.
Malaysian Prime Minister and Ismail Haniyeh opened a number of projects in Gaza, including laying the foundation stone for the Council of Ministers, which was destroyed in the latest aggression on the Gaza Strip, in addition to the opening of a new school.
