Mauritanian President first appearance after being shooted
Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has ordered the release of the soldiers who allegedly shot him on Saturday night. An investigation has been launched, a source revealed. Abdel Aziz, currently resting at Bercy military
hospital in France, is in a stable condition according to the French Defence Ministry.
The Mauritanian opposition said they would suspend all protests until the president is back in the country and wished the President a speedy recovery.
The opposition had organised a demonstration originally scheduled on November 14 calling for the toppling of Abdel Aziz's government.
President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, 55 years old, was transferred to Paris on Sunday after having been shot on Saturday night. Abdel Aziz appeared on national television on Sunday to reassure the Mauritanians about his health condition.
The opposition leader and the president of Rally of Democratic Forces party (RDF) Ahmed Ould Daddah cancelled his press conference on Sunday afternoon following the incident.
Several political parties have expressed their support to the president and condemned violence.
The coalition parties have expressed their gratitude towards the medical team who took care of the President.
