The head of the Sudanese delegation Kamal Ebeid A new round of peace negotiations regarding the Blue Nile and South Kordofan states, were launched Tuesday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. The Sudanese government carried out a public opinion poll in the area whilst the former Sudanese Prime Minister Al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, stressed mutual recognition.
This is the second round within government efforts to find solutions to the crisis in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile states.
During the talks, the head of the Sudanese delegation Kamal Ebeid, criticized the People’s Movement of wanting to seek military victory.
Ebeid also asserted that the government insists on separating political work from humanitarian work.
State Governor General Al-Hadi Beshri and Major General Al-Sawarimi Khalid Saad al-Sawarimi, attended the celebration. Sawarimi referred to continued violations by the South Sudanese government along the border line as attempts to damage agricultural growth.
Journalist Mekki Mahel from the Blue Nile state, told Arabstoday, “the people of the Blue Nile state are eyeing negotiations with optimism because they want peace and wish conditions will return to their former state.”
In the same context, former Sudanese prime minister and head of the opposing Umma Party Al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, addressed a message to the delegations and said, “it is necessary for each side to recognise the other.” He ordered media agencies in Sudan to stop the media campaigns against the south.
Al-Mahdi said in a statement on Wednesday, “some Sudanese media agencies are adopting an exclusive approach and speak in a repelling language that harms the atmosphere of negotiations.”
“Mutual responsibility compels us to work together to keep the ghost of foreign intervention looming in the horizon away”, he asserted.
