Palestinian prisoners end mass hunger strike

Hundreds of hunger-striking Palestinian prisoners ended their open-ended strike on Saturday after reaching a deal with Israel, said head of the Palestinian Committee of Prisoners' Affairs Issa Qaraqe.
In press statements Saturday, Qaraqe said that the agreement came after negotiations which lasted for about 20 hours with prominent Fatah figure Marwan Barghouthi and the strike's leaders at Ashkelon Prison.
More than 1,600 Palestinian prisoners were participating in the hunger strike, dubbed the Freedom and Dignity Strike, which started on April 17.
The hunger strikers were demanding appropriate medical care and treatment in Israeli prisons, as well as an end to solitary confinement and the so-called administrative detention, which is a form of imprisonment without trial or charge.
