Protesters in front of Saudi Arabia Embassy in Cairo
A high-ranking Saudi diplomat in Cairo annouced Saturday evening that the Saudi Arabian embassy has been closed due to protests which have taken place over the last few days in front of the embassy due to
the continued arrest of the Egyption activist Ahmad Al Gezawi in Saudi Arabia.
Mohammad Sami Jamal El Deen, the legal advisor for the Saudi embassy in Cairo informed Arabstoday that the Saudi ambassador Ahmad Kattan, left Cairo at midday on Saturday after he was called by the Saudi government for consultation.
The protests have disrupted business at the embassy and the Saudi consulate including issuing visas to Egyptian labour planning to travel to Saudi Arabia and others who want to visit the holy sites.
Mr Jamal El Deen added that the consulates in Alexandria and Suez were also closed and have threatened to take legal action against newspapers and media organisations who "make up stories" which bring disrepute to the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
