Ahmed Shafiq (L) and Mohammed Morsi (R)
Cairo – Akram Ali
The campaign team of the presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq, declared it would not announce the results before Monday, 7 pm, Cairo time, when they will have received an official statement
from their representatives in the counting committees, and refuted the results published by the Freedom and Justice Party (FJM) which claims their candidate, Mohammed Morsi had won.
Shafiq's campaign said they were certain of the results in the Gharbia governorate which indicates Shafiq to be in the lead by about 616,000 votes, as Shafiq had won 982,126 votes while Morsi received just 366,53. Morsi’s campaign team earlier claimed that Morsi had received 500,532 votes in the same governorate.
In the early hours of Monday, the campaign team for the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, Mohammed Morsi said their candidate has secured victory in the presidential runoffs as vote counting wrapped up at most polling stations across Egypt.
