The Sudanese army
Khartoum – Abed Algayom Ashmeag
The Sudanese army waged intense battles against groups belonging to Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) in East Darfur, along the borders with South Sudan. The army took over a number of
military vehicles and equipment, while regional military commander Captain Suleiman Hassabo announced, in a celebration at Al-Daein town on Monday, that East Darfur areas “will not be a crossing of rebel Darfurian movements from and to South Sudan”.
Hassabo confirmed that the army confiscated two vehicles and other military equipment, adding that JEM used to “kidnap children and youth to recruit them, in addition to plundering property of civilians”.
Al-Daein official Ahmad Jabara stated that the armed forces and popular defence forces were “always ready to secure the borders,” warning Juba from continuing to provide support to “armed Darfurian movements”.
