National Security Council
Tunis - Hayat Al Ghanemi

The Tunisian presidency announced on Wednesday the approval of a draft presidential decree proclaiming production sites and strategic and vital facilities closed military zones. The move aims at isolating the areas from the protests that took place in the past weeks.
The presidential announcement was made after a meeting of the National Security Council under the chairmanship of President Beji Caid Essebsi. It also followed instructions he made on May 10 to the national army to protect the country’s vital and strategic sites.
According to the presidency’s press release, the Council’s meeting was an opportunity to assess the security situation at the national, regional and international levels.
In this regard, the Council stressed the urgent need to continue to take the necessary measures to combat terrorism and eradicate all forms of radicalism, with a view to immunizing the Tunisian society and preserving the national security in compliance with relevant laws and related legislations and the application of the provisions of the national strategy to combat radicalism and terrorism.
During its meeting, the Council considered it essential to step up regional and international efforts to overcome this cross-border phenomenon, pointing out the need to foster co-operation and co-ordination with sisterly and friendly countries to contain this phenomenon, curb its expansion and root it out, in line with the consolidation of the attributes of security and stability in the region and in the world.
The meeting also focused on the latest developments in the war on corruption and on the measures envisaged to ensure the continuation of this war with the required rigor and efficiency.
