Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas
Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas has condemned President Mahmoud Abbas' statements regarding tunnels, affirming that his comments are "ruining Egyptian-Palestinian
relations."
Abbas told Saudi newspaper Al-Watan that the tunnels are threatening Egypt's national security, which Hamas believes is constituted as a clear incitement to "block and starve the Gaza Strip."
The spokesman of Hamas, Samy Abu Zahry, has said that Abbas’ statements aim to insult Palestinian people and undermine the relationship between Egypt and Palestine.
He stressed that such statements "will not serve Palestinian reconciliation" nor the efforts exerted in this matter.
The Palestinian president stressed that many people achieve notable gains from these tunnels, adding that Egyptian authorities "need to take serious measures" against them to "protect their national security."
Military spokesperson, Colonel Ahmed Ali, said on Wednesday that Egyptian security guards discovered 34 tunnels on the Egyptian border in Rafah, which were later destroyed.
