Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah
Sanaa – Khalid Haroji
Yemeni President, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, has arrived in Riyadh on Monday evening on an official visit to Saudi Arabia in order to meet with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah.
Hadi’s visit to Saudi
Arabia is his first out-of-country official tour as president since he came to power under an internationally-brokered deal backed by the United States, the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council signed in November in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Both discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the executive process of the provisions of the Gulf initiative and its mechanisms.
Yemeni political sources told Arabstoday that President Hadi and King Abdullah are to discuss the nature of the current crisis and how to resolve it, as well as the obstacles impeding the political settlement process for the transfer of power in the second phase of the transitional period, which requires addressing the complicated issues, primarily the southern province issue and the province of Saada on the border with Saudi Arabia.
The same sources, under condition of anonymity revealed that President Hadi will discuss with King Abdullah the role played by Saudi Arabia in helping Yemen to transcend this critical stage as well as its expected financial support to overcome the crisis facing the ruling system in the country, to meet the development requirements and to rebuild what has been destroyed by armed confrontations in Sanaa the capital and other Yemeni cities.
The security situation will be included as well discussions concerning the threat of terrorism and the expansion of al-Qaeda activity in Yemen which represents a danger to both neighbours, sources added.
Hadi will review Yemen's efforts to fight terrorism as well as Saudi's role in combatting this sahred problem whether through security and intelligence support or technical and logistics support.
