The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Egypt vs Morocco game in the quarter final of the African Cup of Nations will take place on Wednesday at the Stade de Port-Gentil .
Many African players who participate in the Africa Cup of Nations currently held in Gabon are suffering from the poor state of the pitches which are hosting the 31st edition of the African tournament. The officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) came under suspicion of delinquency, as they did not consider the poor infrastructure of the countries that host the most important continental event.
Several teams including Ghana and Egypt have previously complained the poor state of the 20,000-capacity Stade de Port-Gentil.
The pitch in Port-Gentil is in a terrible condition and Grant said: "We want to qualify and we want to play on a good pitch,” Ghana coach Avram Grant said.
"There is no point complaining about the pitch but I am not happy with this -- we are a technical team and we try to play good football,” he added.
"If the other pitch is better of course I'd prefer the other pitch."
Concerning the match-up against Morocco, Ramadan Sobhi stated that the players are determined to win regardless of the opponent, adding that the quarter final match won’t be easy:
“Of course the match will be tough, especially given that matches against North African teams usually have extra enthusiasm.”
Egypt booked their place in the knockout stages of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over Ghana at the Stade de Port-Gentil on Wednesday evening.
Mohamed Salah's maiden AFCON goal leading the seven-time champions into the next round as Group D winners. Despite defeat, the Black Stars join the Egyptians in the quarterfinals with Mali and Uganda bowing out.
The Pharaohs will face North African rivals Morocco in the last eight while the in-form Democratic Republic of Congo lie in wait for Avram Grant's troops.
Egypt took the lead as early as the 11th minute with Salah hammering home an unstoppable free-kick. The Roma man's left-footed shot from the edge of the area whistling into the back of the net.
