Interior Ministry's decision to allow Ahly fans to attend Super Cup match has caused outrage
Cairo - Hisham Chahine

Interior Ministry's decision to allow Ahly fans to attend Super Cup match has caused outrage Egyptian Interior Ministry's decision allowing fans to attend the upcoming CAF Super Cup match between al-Ahly and Congolese side AC Léopards has opened the floodgates, with Egyptian Football Association [EFA] and popular clubs Zamalek and al-Islamili, calling for equal treatment.
The EFA has asked the ministry to allow fans to attend the national team's March 26 World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, due to the crucial nature of the fixture and the Pharaoh's need to remain at the top of their qualifying group.
Al-Ismaili have also requested that fans are allowed to attend their Arab Champions League last eight second-leg fixture against CR Belouzidad, with the match scheduled for February 26 or 27. Zamalek have lodged a similar request for their CAF Champions League fixture against Chadian side Gazelle on February 16 or 17.
Both Ahly and Zamalek games will be played at the Borg al-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
The EFA and al-Ismaili have both asked the Sport Minister, al-Amri Farouk, to help them obtain the ministry's approval, arguing that allowing fans to attend matches again could serve as a dress rehearsal for the full return of the practice, possibly in the country's Premier League, which kicked off a week ago with a ban on public attendance.
