UEFA President Michel Platini
Nyon - Arabstoday

UEFA President Michel Platini UEFA President Michel Platini says that he is not worried about some of Europe's top football clubs breaking away from the organisation to form their own super league. In an interview with Ouest France, Platini dismissed the idea of a seperate pan-European governing body.  "I cannot see how a system like that would work, without a framework like UEFA. Who would regulate matters? Where would they play? Do many people want that? I do not think so," he said.
The Frenchman has seen the injection of multi-million pounds into football clubs like Paris St-Germain and Manchester City, over the last few years. He believes UEFA is in a tough position to question the origin of investors. "I cannot question the origin of the owners, even if I don't like the idea of foreign investment. For me, the identity of a football club is its region and supporters," he explained.
Platini, who managed France for four years has also backed former star Zinedine Zidane to become national team coach one day. "Someone with the aura of Zinedine can coach well. From experience, I know that becoming national coach, without managing a club beforehand is not easy. If the president of the Federation considers Zidane is the right man, then with the right players he will be a good coach," he added.
Platini also revealed that plans to scrap the Europa League in favour of a 64-club Champions League competition are being discussed, with a final decision to be made in 2014.
