The Russian Football Union (RFU) has announced a decision to cancel its contract with Yevgeny Bushmanov, the head coach of the national youth football team (Under-21), the RFU press service said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Today, the RFU and members of the coaching staff of the Russian youth football team, led by Head Coach Yevgeny Bushmanov, reached an agreement to terminate contracts upon the mutual consent of the parties," the statement said.
Last week, the Russian national youth football team lost to the Austrian squad 2:3 in the final round of the qualifying stage for the 2019 UEFA Under-21 Championship, failing for the third time in a row to enter the final grid of the teams vying for the trophy of the biannual UEFA European youth football championship.
Members of the RFU Technical Committee gathered for a session on Tuesday and after considerations announced that the work of Bushmanov and his coaching staff was unsatisfactory.
"The Russian Football Union thanks Bushmanov and his coaching staff for the work with the youth football team and wishes them success in their future professional career," the RFU added in its statement.
Russia’s governing football body did not specify who would replace 46-year-old Bushmanov in the post of the national youth football squad’s head coach. Bushmanov took charge of the national youth team as the head coach in 2017.
