Egyptian young talented goalkeeper, Ahmed El-Shennawy
Egypt Olympic Manager Hany Ramzy, who is temporarily coaching the first team, has decided to go ahead without his talented goalkeeper, Ahmed El-Shennawy, in the next 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier
against Sierra Leone on 3 September, because of a knee injury.
“The player will be under a rehab program to prepare him for the Niger match," he said.
The 42-year old coach dismissed the idea of calling Essam El-Hadary to guard the Olympic net, despite expectations, having recently called up Captain Ahmed Hassan to make use of his experience with the under-23 boys, allowing him to become the most capped player.
“The team has three high-level goalies, Mohamed Abou-Gabal, Ali Lotfy and Mohamed Bassam and they all have the ability to guard Egypt’s target not only in the next two games but also during the next years,” Ramzy insisted.
Egypt’s hopes of reaching next year’s Nations Cup in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon are virtually over after they only collected two points from their first three games. They are at the bottom of Group G, six points behind leading South Africa.
Egypt are yet to name a new boss following Hassan Shehata’s departure. They have drawn up a three-man shortlist that includes Colombian Fancisco Maturana, Serbian Zoran Filipovic and former United States coach Bob Bradley - who are vying for the vacant managerial seat.
