Twente remain in contention for the league despite poor form
Steve McClaren has been given the vote of confidence by FC Twente chairman Joop Munsterman despite the club's recent poor form. The Englishman has seen his Dutch side pick up just six points from their last five
league games and finish bottom of their UEFA Europa League group.
Despite this, Munsterman think the former England manager is the right man to get things right. "Steve is our head coach, our manager in football, and that does not change. We really cannot dismiss him, that would have no effect," he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
The chairman's words will be music to the ears of McClaren, whose team remains third in the Eredivisie, level on points with second-placed Vitesse and two behind leaders PSV.
"You send someone away and bring in another, but that does not really help. McClaren's contract has half a year left on it and we intend for him to serve that."
Meanwhile, Twente defender Douglas is being linked with a January move to the English Premier League. The 24-year old has entered the final year of his contract in the Netherlands and has attracted interest from both Newcastle United and Fulham.
The Brazilian secured Dutch citizenship in the summer meaning he is now eligible to play for the Holland national team.
