Moroccan researchers Mohamed Jabroun and Nadia al-Emary on Monday received the Arab Social and Human Sciences award by the Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies in Doha. The
insistute is run by Arab intellectual Azmi Bishara-in recognition of their studies in humanities in the Arab world.
As per press reports on Monday evening, the committee in Doha declared the winners during its first conference for the year 2011/2012. The prize includes a research scholarship of $30,000 and $25,000 for young researchers.
Al-Emary received the award for for her study “Identity and learning language in Arab countries” that deals with the Arab identity and earning foreign languages used in Arab countries. It also discusses the language in Morocco and its effect on decision makers between Arabic, French and the economic, political and cultural situations.
Mohamed Jabroun received the young researcher award for his stufy “Identity Split: Controversial identity and languages in Morocco from historical point of view” where he deals with the relationship between identity and language and the historical effect in forming a Moroccan identity. He also observed to the effect of geography in the development of both individuals and communities
The president of the prize committee, Taher Kanaan said: "The goal of this scientific award which was launched a year ago, is to encourage Arab researchers inside and outside the Arab world to carry out more studies in issues and problems that affect the development of Arab communities."
