Basra province announced, on Monday, that the production of liquid gas increased to more than six thousand tons per day, indicating that the country's need for liquid gas is 4500 tons per day.
The head of the oil and gas committee in Basra Provincial Council, Ali Al-Faris, said that there is an increase in the production of liquid gas to reach more than (6000) tons per day, after the opening of a series of projects for the production of this substance, stressing the the current production of liquid gas exceeded the total need of the country, which does not exceed (4500) tons per day.
He added that the excess material is stored by the Ministry of Oil to be exported outside Iraq through the ports of Basra within a series of successive shipments, which provides additional financial returns to boost the national economy and strengthen the federal budget of the country.
Al-Faris stressed that the increasing projects in the oil and gas sector and the adoption of the policy of optimal investment of gas by the Ministry of Oil will contribute to the provision of large quantities of liquid gas and some other types. This will help to increase exported quantities, in addition to creating new jobs, stimulating the local private sector and achieving self-sufficiency in oil and gas derivatives.
The oil minister Jabbar al-Allaibi, confirmed, last week, that Iraq's export of liquefied natural gas reached to 1000 tons, explaining that the gas sector has seen qualitative leaps.
In the same context, Iraqi Oil Ministry said that Iraq has issued two new shipments of liquid gas through southern ports in the province of Basra, according to the statement of the ministry.
According to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for the gas industry, the ministry has loaded and exported two cylinders of the first liquid gas for 1.6 thousand tons and the second was loaded with 1.53 thousand tons.
