Spanish king Juan Carlos Spanish king Juan Carlos has confirmed he will carry out his delayed visit to Morocco later this month. The monarch was forced to postponed his trip to Rabat in April due to a hernia operation.
The visit will include signing business agreements between the two countries, Joan Rosell, president of the Spanish employers’ confederation has claimed.
The king will travel to the capital of the north African country, Rabat, on July 15 in the company of Foreign Minister José Manuel García-Margallo.
This is the Spanish king's first official royal engagement since his surgery.
After learning of the cancellation of the first trip, Morocco's King Mohammed VI sent a message to the monarch "as a personal friend" to wish him well in his recovery.
Spain has a strong and very close working relationship with Morocco, with many Spanish businesses – from hotels to renewable energy and consultancies – set up there and many more interested in doing so.
Spain's network of schools in Morocco is its largest educational system abroad.
The last time the king of Spain was in Morocco was in May 2011, when he stayed in Marrakech, just days after terrorists bombed the Café Argana in the main Djemaa el-Fnâ square, killing 17 people – mostly tourists – and injuring 20 others.
Rosell, from Spanish employers’ confederation said that Spanish businessmen will also form part of the king's delegation heading to Rabat on July 15.
