Meyer Ghaity plays lead role in her new film
Egyptian actress Meyer Ghaity believes her upcoming film, Black February, reflects a significant milestone in her career.
Speaking to Arabstoday, Ghaity said that the film is a black comedy, which
looks at the deteriorating conditions of science in Egypt.
In her first leading role, Ghaity plays Reem, a university lecturer and the daughter of Khaled Saleh. She explained that the movie has nothing to do with Egypt's January 25 revolution, even though the title may imply that to be the case. The plot revolves around "the life of an ordinary family trying to be successful in the society," she said.
Black February also stars Khaled Saleh, Tarek Abdel Aziz and Amal Rizk. It has been written and directed by Mohammed Amin. The film will be released across Egypt on January 23.
Ghity is also happy with her role in the drama series, Maa Sabq El Israr. She praised director Mohammad Sami for making actors feel comfortable and helping them deliver their best performance. She denied that fellow actress Ghada Abdel Razek overshadowed her work in the drama, adding that she is solely focused on her performance, and pointing out that the series was successful because everyone played their part. Furthermore, Ghaity said that popularity of the official title song was a major factor in the overall success of the drama.
The series also featured Majid al-Masri, Abeer Sabri, Ahmad Rateb, Tariq Lutfi, Ahmed Malik and Mohammed Darwish. It was written by Ayman Salama, and directed by Mohammad Sami.
