Singer Sevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac performs in Los Angeles
Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks is to appear as herself on hit US television series "American Horror Story: Coven," and the show's co-creator gave details Thursday about how she was hired. The veteran star will sing at least
one song on episode 10 of the TV show, which airs on the FX network, Ryan Murphy said in comments published in Entertainment Weekly.
Nicks, known for her ethereal black lace outfits and the witchcraft-themed 1970s Fleetwood Mac mega-hit "Rhiannon," had voiced interest in appearing on the show herself.
But she initially could not make it because she was touring in Europe with the legendary band, whose 1977 record "Rumours" is one of the biggest-selling albums of all time.
Then the group's founder and drummer Mick Fleetwood was diagnosed with cancer, forcing them to cancel the rest of the tour -- so Nicks became free.
"She called and said: 'I'm now available, sadly enough, if you want to use me'," Murphy told the industry journal.
"So I said 'Let's do it!' So she's flying in for like two days and doing her scenes. I know every person in the show is like 'I better be in that goddamn scene!' It's funny."
"American Horror Story: Coven" is the third season of the hit show -- which uses the same main cast to tell different mini-series stories -- after "American Horror Story" and "American Horror Story: Asylum."
The current season is set in modern-day New Orleans at a school for young witches, with flashbacks to the 1800s.
