Gritty ballads about dead-end life in small town America earned Kacey Musgraves
Gritty ballads about dead-end life in small town America earned Kacey Musgraves nominations in six categories Tuesday for this year's Country Music Association Awards, to be presented November 6.
Musgraves, a first-time CMA nominee, is up for best female vocalist, best new artist, best album for "Same Trailer Different Park" and best single for "Merry Go 'Round." That's on top of double nominations in the best-song category.
"Six great reasons to get out of bed today... So grateful!!" the 25-year-old Texas native -- a favorite of critics and fans alike for her raw depictions of Middle America -- exclaimed on her Twitter feed (@KaceyMusgraves).
Musgraves is a relative newcomer to country music's center stage. "Same Trailer" is her first major-label release, after she put out three albums independently.
Blake Shelton received five nominations, including the most-coveted entertainer of the year category. His wife Miranda Lambert got five nods, too, including two related to her Pistol Annies side project.
Taylor Swift picked up nominations for entertainer of the year, best vocalist and best album for "Red" despite her musical shift away from Nashville towards urban pop.
She is also a co-nominee with Tim McGraw and Keith Urban on McGraw's single "Highway Don't Care."
Florida Georgia Line picked up four nominations, including best single for "Cruise" and best musical event for a remix with rapper Nelly of the infectious crossover hit.
Hosting November's televised awards night in Nashville will be Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.
