Egyptian actress Dalia El Behery Cairo – Marwa Yehia In an interview with Arabstoday, Egyptian actress Dalia El Behery said that she believed that the Port Said people were innocent of the massacre that took place in their city. and that the it was orchestrated.
Speaking about her participation in a march organised by the Creativity Front which gathered in front of Cairo's Opera House before moving to the People’s Assembly on the first day of the Assembly’s inauguration, she said: “Exercising our political freedom was prohibited before the January 25 revolution, as no voice was allowed to be louder than that of the former regime. This rally was organised to protect our intellect and creativity under the ruling Islamists. Art has no censors. If there has to be a censor, it should be the head of the home and family who has the right to put up a sign saying ‘for adults only’ when there is a reason for it"
She appealed for representation from the creative segment of society to draft the constitution, in addition to representatives from the syndicates.
For Behery it was her first march and one of the reasons she took part was because of statements voiced by Islamists on certain TV channels on the subject of censorship.
She said she regretted not being able to participate in the Egyptian revolution herself as at the time. she was undergoing an operation, so she wanted to make up for it and add her voice on the revolution's anniversary and share with other Egyptians their desire to realise the revolution's demands, particularly as many of her generation were brought up not to speak about democracy or respect opposing opinions: “The position of the Muslim Brotherhood is not consistent. They should respect the families of the revolution's martyrs as well as the injured and not call for a celebration on the anniversary of the revolution.”
Behery urged for political trials to judge the former regime so that justice could be brought to the families of those protesters who were killed. She also expressed her shock at the amount of money which was looted by the regime, adding that Mubarak lost a lot of sympathy after the scale of the corruption by his regime, was disclosed.
Rania El Behery expressed sympathy with the army, but said she is against the Supreme Council of Armed forces (SCAF) because she believes they are not transparent. However, she remains an optimist.
On being honoured by the Kuwait Cinema Club, Behery said she was thrilled at being rewarded by the club for her lifetime achievements and said it had motivated her to continue this success in her future work.
As for her participation in the TV series ‘Fe Ghamdet Ayn’ (In the Blink of an Eye), she said she was thrilled about the participation of the singer Angham, adding that the series tells a compelling social story where she plays the role of Fatma who together with her friend Nabila, were raised in poor circumstances in an orphanage.
