Virgin Mountain and Bridgend were the big winners in the jury-judged categories at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this week.
Written and directed by Dagur K?ri, Virgin Mountain is about "a mammoth of a man who at 43 years of age is still living with his mother," a synopsis said.
"Shy and awkward, he hasn't quite learned how to socialize with others, leaving him an untouchable virgin."
The film earned The Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature and the Best Screenplay prize, while Gunnar J?nsson was named Best Actor in a Narrative Feature Film.
Hannah Murray scored the Best Actress in a Narrative Feature Film honor for her performance in Bridgend, which also won the accolades for Best Cinematography and Best Narrative Editing. The movie was directed by Jeppe Ronde.
"When a police investigator is tasked with investigating a recent string of unexplained tragedies, he arrives in the notorious Welsh county of Brigend with his daughter," press notes said. "Naive and curious, Sara slowly works her way in with a clique of wild teenagers and discovers what bonds them together so tightly -- the ritualistc celebration of their friends' suicides."
Camilla Nielsson's Democrats won for Best Documentary Feature and the Best Documentary Editing prize went to Valerio Bonelli for Palio.
"We are proud to honor the winning filmmakers, artists, and creators tonight," Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, said in a statement Thursday. "Their stories have inspired all of us -- and our audiences. We thank them for sharing their work at Tribeca."
