Cura's mother cheered from the front row
The second day of Haute Couture fashion week began with Serkan Cura at the Hotel De Ville. Cura's first look set the tone for a show filled with animalistic high-glamour. Bird feathers spurted fromthe
shoulder blades to at least a metre either side, creating a super-villain silhouette perfectly befitting the menacing music of Amine Rachad.
Earthy, tangible fabrics were used to aggressive and dazzling effect throughout the show. A thorn bush encircled the head and torso of one model, whilst another was swallowed by a flower-bed of huge 3D blossoms.
The effect wass all-encompassing and theatrical, reminiscent of early Alexander McQueen or Giambatista Valli's last Couture show in 2012.
Accessories were inspired - Garden of Eden apples dangled from thge wrist in corresponding colours to the outfit they were placed with.
One can't help but imagine Lady Gaga strutting down the red carpet in one of Cura's outrageous creations. Summed up in one word, the collection is fierce. The young designer Serkan explained to Arabstoday that he had been taken a particular interest in the use of feathers and insects in his work from the age of 13, "I used to collect pieces
of feather from shops all over Paris, I was obsessed." His passion grew "during my time working with Jean Paul Gaultier, it was hugely influential time for me and my work up to now."
So what's next for Serkan? "More of this, more crazy collections inspired by animals, more excitement!" And with that, Cura tottered off with his mother on one arm and his tiny dog Delly on the other.
